From the ancient Masseria (farm) of the
family La Barbera, known as the “Cirenei”,
in 1952 was born Oasi Basciana, exactly in
the countryside Basciana, a hilly territory
surrounded by a green frame of secular woods.
It was in far 1952 when the Massari (farmers)
Tore and Minca (known as so in the
countryside), inheriting a part of the ownership
from their parents, decided to begin to lay down one
stone after another… those were years of sacrifices
and love for the family.
As they arrived on the place, the Massari
found only a raw part of the woods of Basciana,
which they thought well to improve by cleaning up
and creating the bases to build a real farm, so they
could also bring forth their ancient activity of
breeders and Massari that were handed down by
father to son.
But, before building some farmhouses for residency,
cow-sheds and sheepfolds for the breeding, hen-pens,
pigsties and warehouses where to stock the annual
crop, the Massari thought well to create a
source of water, “u pozzo” (the well), having
casually seen on the place a point of spring water
that still feeds up to today the property. After
that the Masseria was built completely.
From that moment the Massari tried to
progress in their activity, increasing jobs to other
people and trying to humbly grow their family… until
reaching the 1980s, when, as for tradition, they
handed down their activity to their children. To
bring the farm up to today was one of their children
along with his family, which improving it more and
more made it a RECOGNIZED AGRITURISMO
(agricultural tourist site).
This is how was born... “OASI BASCIANA”
